INNOVATIVE SEMICONDUCTOR TECHNOLOGIES

Global Challenges in Focus

Society currently faces a number of daunting challenges. The world’s population is growing rapidly, more and more megacities are forming and demand for energy continues to spiral across the globe. In addition, the rising need for climate protection calls for new approaches to energy consumption in many areas of everyday life.

As we move forward, quality of life will hinge on innovative technologies that bring more energy efficiency to existing applications and systems, while making mobility concepts more flexible and digital communications more secure. Our powerful semiconductor technologies already provide the building blocks for tomorrow’s growth markets.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Electricity will remain our main source of power in the future. But we must use it more economically. Our semiconductor technologies are building more efficiency into the entire energy chain – from generation through transmission to consumption.

For example, Infineon chipsets are used to feed wind power into the grid and maximize the energy efficiency of industrial drives.

MOBILITY

Everyone wants to be mobile. But growing urbanization and the pressing need to protect our climate call for new forms of mobility. Besides more energy-efficient cars, we also need sustainable and affordable concepts for local and long-distance travel.

From urban rail to high-speed intercity services, from e-bikes to electric vehicles, our semiconductors are enabling tomorrow’s mobility solutions by harnessing energy efficiently.

SECURITY

Our daily lives are shaped by digital services. And all modern communication media – from the Internet to electronic passports – must be safeguarded against misuse to protect personal data

The security chips we design not only transmit data quickly, they also use innovative encryption technologies to safeguard information and protect our virtual identities.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

With products and solutions for energy efficiency, mobility and security, Infineon is making a valuable contribution towards a sustainable society. Infineon was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth time in a row in 2013. The “Sustainability Yearbook” once again included Infineon among the top-scording 15 percent of companies worldwide for sustainability performance.

Our employees – our responsibility Employee safety is a key issue for Infineon. We have an Occupational Safety and Health Management System in place worldwide, which is certified in accordance with the OHSAS 18001 standard.

Our semiconductor manufacturing – benchmark in sustainability Infineon Environmental Management System is certified according to ISO 14001. Since the end of 2012, our largest European production sites, including the corporate headquarters, have been certified according to the new energy management standard ISO 50001. Our front-end sites consumed around 33 percent less water and 42 percent less energy and generated 50 percent less waste per sqcm manufactured wafer than the global benchmark from the World Semiconductor Council.

Sustainable supply chain management Supply chain management is an integral part of our CSR understanding. Infineon has strict requirements for suppliers, as they have to adhere to our Business Conduct Guidelines and Principles of Purchasing.
