Course Registration, Refund of Tuition Fees And Leave of Absence

Registration

 

Plan of Study

 

  • The plan of study for any student shall contain the subjects that the student shall register each trimester for the duration of his studies in the programme. The plan shall be formulated by the student on the advise of his academic advisor so as to ensure that pre-requisite course requirements are met, and core subjects related to the studentís major and electives are included in the study plan.

 

Registration

 

  • Registration for courses must be completed before the beginning of each academic trimester.
  • Students may register for new subjects or withdraw from a subject during the first two weeks of the trimester.
  • The Dean of a Faculty or the Director of an Academic Center may grant exemption from pre-requisite subjects to students, that they deem fit.

 

Academic Load


  • Full-time students who are not on probation, shall take a maximum of 24 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in a 14 lecture-week trimester and a maximum of 14 credit hours and a inimum of 1 subject in an 8 lecture-week trimester. Not withstanding the above, a student who is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering degree shall only be allowed to register a maximum of 18 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 14 lecture-week trimester; and a maximum of 9 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 8 lecture-week trimester
  • Students on probation shall only be allowed to register for a maximum of 18 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 14 lecture-week trimester and a maximum of 9 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 8 lecture-week trimester. Not withstanding the above, while on probation, a student who is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering degree shall only be allowed to register a maximum of 12 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 14 lecture-week trimester; and a maximum of 6 credit hours and a minimum of 1 subject in the 8 lecture-week trimester.

 

Withdrawal

 

  • A student shall be allowed up to two weeks before the examination period to withdraw from subject(s) that he is registered for, provided his academic load does not fall below the prescribed minimum load.
  • Withdrawal will result in an automatic grade of (W) to be recorded. This grade will not be used in the computation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average for the student concerned.

 


Refund of Tuition Fee

 

  • 100% of the course fee shall be refunded if a student withdraws from a subject within the first and second week of any trimester.
  • 75% of the course fee shall be refunded if a student withdraws from a subject within the third week of any trimester.
  • 50% of the course fee shall be refunded if a student withdraws from a subject within the fourth and fifth week of any trimester.
  • No refund shall be made for withdrawal beyond the fifth week of any trimester.

 


Leave of Absence

 

  • Subject to section 14 below, the Dean of a Faculty or Director of an Academic Centre may grant a student leave of absence from the programme.
  • Except on extraordinary circumstances, a student shall not be allowed leave of absence for more than three (3) trimesters throughout his study at Multimedia University.

 


Maximum Duration

 

  • 1. The maximum period of study for a 3 year degree programme shall be six (6) years and for a 4 year degree programme shall be eight (8) years.
  • 2. The maximum period of study for a Foundation programme shall be two (2) years.
    Not withstanding (1) and (2) above, after the maximum period is over, if a student wishes to extend his study longer, he may appeal to the President whose decision shall be final.
  • If a student changes Faculty, the period of study shall start afresh.
