(Rule No. 8)


EXAMINATIONS

 

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 of the Constitution of Multimedia University, the President upon the recommendation of the Senate has made, in accordance with the provision of the said section, the following Rule:

 

 

PART I

General


1.      Name

This Rule may be cited as the Rule on Examinations and shall be deemed to have come into force on 1st July 1997.


2.      Interpretation

In this Rule, unless otherwise stated:

  • "Examination Unit" means the body in Multimedia University given the responsibility by the President to carry out the overall administrative function of conducting examinations.
  • "Examiner" means any academic staff responsible for the preparation of examination questions and relevant marking scheme for an examination paper.
  • "Faculty" means any faculty or center that offers academic programs.
  • "He" means the male and female gender.
  • "Candidate" means a student who is pursuing a full-time program.



PART II
Board of Examiners


Board of Examiners for Faculty

There shall be a Board of Examiners for each Faculty for the undergraduate program and a Board of Examiners for the Centre of Foundation and Extension Education. The Board of Examiners shall be accountable to the Board of the Faculty/Centre and the Senate.


Membership

  • The membership of a Board of Examiners shall comprise the academic staff who teach the courses under the jurisdiction of the particular Board. The members of the Board of Examiners shall be appointed by the relevant Board of the Faculty/Centre.
  • The Chairman of a Board of Examiners shall be the Dean of the Faculty or the Director of the Centre concerned.

 



PART III
Eligibility of Entry into Examinations


Eligibility

  • No student shall be eligible to be admitted to any examination unless:
  • he is officially registered in such a subject;
  • he has paid the tuition fees; and
  • he has attained at least 75% attendance at lectures, tutorials and laboratory classes for the subject.
  • Every student, who is eligible to sit for an examination, shall be given a registration confirmation slip by the Examination Unit as proof of eligibility to sit for the examination.


Appeal

Any student, who is barred from taking the examinations due to any reasons stated in section Eligibility above, may appeal to the President, whose decision on the matter shall be final.

 



PART IV

Appeal for Regarding of Examination Paper


Appeal

A student, who may have sufficient reason to believe that he has been unjustly graded or that an error has occurred in the marking of his paper or in the computing of grades, may appeal to the relevant Board of Examiners through the Examination Unit.


Appeal Procedure

(1)     A written formal appeal must be forwarded to the respective Dean/Director through the Examination Unit and a fee of Ringgit Malaysia fifty only (RM 50.00) per paper (or as determined by the Senate from time to time) shall be imposed as appeal fee. The appeal fee shall only be refunded if the said appeal is successful.

 

(2)    All appeals shall reach the Examination Unit not later than one week after the commencement of the following trimester. Appeals submitted after one week shall not be entertained.

 

(3)   The Dean/Director shall, together with the examiner concerned, review the answer script of the candidate. The Dean/Director may direct that the candidate’s answer script be re-examined by a second examiner.

 

(4)   After the review, if there is a change of mark and/or grade, the change shall be submitted to the Senate, through the Board of Examiners, for approval.

 

 

PART V

Final Examination Venue And Invigilators


     

  • For local students of MMU e-learning campus, the final examination will be held at Multimedia University main campuses (Melaka/Cyberjaya) or any assigned examination centers as agreed by Senate. The invigilators for the examination will be the Multimedia University Academic / Administrative staff, appointed by Senate.

  • For international students of MMU e-learning campus, the final examination will be held at the affiliated International Organizations or any assigned location as agreed by Senate. The invigilators for the examination will be either be the Academic / Administrative Staff of the affiliated International Organizations or any other individuals as appointed by Senate.
