Overview

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers two postgraduate degrees by research namely Master of Engineering Science (M.Eng.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

M.Eng.Sc.

This programme assures students an opportunity of extensive training in research under supervision so that they are capable of working innovatively in their respective majors. Graduates are expected to possess specialized knowledge, practical skills and aptitude to pursue continuous improvement in their respective majors.

Ph.D

This programme assures students an opportunity of extensive training in research so that they are capable of working independently and creatively. Graduates are expected to possess strong practical and theoretical knowledge to conduct research works and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields.

Minimum Entry Requirement:
MEngSc. 
(1)
A Bachelor's degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, in an Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field from MMU or institutions recognised by Senate; or

(2)
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, in an Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field from MMU or institutions recognised by Senate, and evidence of at least one (1) year relevant working or research experience, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or

(3)
A Bachelorís degree or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, in an Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field from MMU or institutions recognised by Senate, can be accepted subject to a minimum of five (5) years working experience in relevant field.
Ph.D. 
(1)
A Master's degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field from MMU or institutions recognised by Senate; or

(2)
A Masterís degree or equivalent in a non-related field from MMU or institutions recognised by Senate, and evidence of at least two (2) years relevant working or research experience; or

(3)
Other academic qualifications equivalent to (1) or (2) that are accepted by Senate.
Type of Study: By research only.
Status of Admission:  Either Full-time or Part-time.
Period of Candidature:
MEngSc.

Full time: minimum 1 year; maximum 3 years.
Part Time: minimum 2 years; maximum 5 years.
Ph.D. 
-
Full time: minimum 2 years; maximum 5 years.
Part Time: minimum 3 years; maximum 7 years.

Candidates will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension in solving problems related to the field of study in new situations and various contexts;
  • Integrate knowledge and manage research matters;

  • Demonstrate study skills to continuously progress on their own with a high degree of autonomy;
  • Apply and integrate knowledge concerning current research issues and produce work that is at the forefront of development in the domain of study;
  • Evaluate and analyse research solutions in terms of their usability, efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Prepare, publish and/or present in indexed journal and/or indexed conference to a diverse audience in a clear and concise manner.
