MMU Gold and Silver Medals at ITEX ’09

At the 20th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 09) which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 15th-17th May 2009, FET research teams led by Dr. Ir. Sim Kok Swee won one Gold and two Silver medals for the categories of Biotechnology, Health and Fitness; and Multimedia.

Project headed by Dr. Ir. Sim Kok Swee, group of the Centre of Multimedia Security and Signal Processing of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) won a Gold medal for their research project entitled "Automated Spoligotype Recognition for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Strain Typing" under the category of Biotechnology, Health and Fitness. Team members of the winning team are Tan Tiong Lang, Ong Chia Sui, and Lai Min Ann.

Another two Silvers winning teams are from research projects entitled "Biocompatibility Test for Latex Gloves" and "Intelligent Real-Time Auto-Probing for Breast Cancer Detection by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)".

MMU Emerged as ROBOCON 2009 Champion

The Malaysia Robocon 2009 robot building competition was held on 10 May 2009 in Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam. MMU has achieved tremendous victory this year, with team Roboforce 1 from FET as the champion, team MMU Cyber as the 1st runner-up, and team Roboforce 2 winning the Best Technology Award.



By winning the national level of ROBOCON 2009, MMU will represent Malaysia in the Asia Pacific ROBOCON Tournament which will be held in Tokyo, Japan on 22 August 2009.
